It’s never too late to start…horse riding

In the last four months I’ve taken up horse riding. I’ve always loved horses but I was never one of those lucky little girls who could ride as soon as they could walk or who joined a pony club.

So, finally, at the age of 28 I’ve decided to give it a go – riding lessons, not joining a pony club!

I’ve found a good school and a great instructor but I’m very much the odd one out. Most people at the school have been those young girls who got to join a pony club or take riding lessons.

There’s a whole bunch of people who have been riding since they were old enough to sit on a horse and then there’s me – being told off for trying to “steer the horse like a car.” That’s why I stick to having private lessons.

But still, I’ll stick with it, even if it is a little intimidating, because it’s never too late to start….

  1. Hey!

I totally agree with you about people who have been learning to ride horses before they can walk! I started riding at 20 and recently moved to Cardiff and found myself in lessons with kids as young as seven! Makes me feel great, especially when riders younger than me get moved up a grade!

But it’s never too late to start and you should definitely keep up with it – don’t let the scallywags put you off!

  2. Thanks Samantha, you keep up with it too!
